In 2008, Perszyk left her 20-plus year corporate executive career in global sourcing and procurement to fulfill her desire to become an entrepreneur. With gas prices soaring at $4 gallon and the stock market crashing, Perszyk worried that the timing may not be the best to invest in a transportation service. But, after diligent research and a solid business strategy, Perszyk chose to invest in EMT USA, the nation's first non-emergency medical transportation provider. In May 2008, Perszyk launched her EMT USA business, headquartered in St. Peters, serving the St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties. Her business provides transportation for clients of any age to medical appointments and events, such as family gatherings and weddings, as well as over 60 students per day to and from school. These are students who for whatever reason do not have access or can not be accommodated on a school bus route.
"EMT USA matched our personal interests and values, and when we're transporting hundreds of people a day, it's very rewarding and exciting," said Perszyk. "Just because some of our clients can no longer drive, doesn't mean they should lose their freedom to be able to get out and go!"
Since opening the business, the monthly gross sales have doubled and the company has grown from 13 to 22 employees. The transportation fleet, originally eleven vehicles, has almost tripled in size and they had to relocate from the original office space of 900-square-foot to a 3,800-square-foot location. Perszyk evens plans a territory expansion in early 2010.
"There is a tremendous need for our services and we are a very professional, customer focused operation. Taking care of our customers is our utmost priority and that has been the key to our growth, "said Perszyk.
EMT provides professional, non-emergency transportation services for a wide variety of clients including passengers in wheelchairs, seniors and the disabled, special-needs children and many others. Agencies, institutions, adult day care, rehab centers, mental health facilities, medical offices, dialysis centers, state Medicaid, hospitals, schools and more all utilize EMT's services.
